What Happens if I Do Not Have Auto Insurance?

Auto insurance is not something that is to be trifled with. In almost every state around the country, auto insurance is a mandatory part of driving. What would happen if you decided to go against norms, and not purchase auto insurance? In todays’ blog we will go over all the consequences that can come from driving without insurance.

To start off, at some point you will be pulled over. It happens to everyone and it may be for something as small as your tail light being out. However, when you get pulled over the police office has every right to ask for your auto insurance. If you are caught driving without an insurance policy, then you will be cited. This can come with hefty fines, and even the suspension of your license. If you cannot prove that you had an insurance policy during that time, it is only going to cause you headaches and take money out of your pocket. The officer also has the option to tow/impound your car for not having insurance.

It is virtually impossible nowadays to get around not having car insurance. The DMV has a database with every car that is registered in the state, insurance companies can tap into these databases and feed them information on everyones’ policies. If the DMV finds out that you do not have an insurance policy, they will send you a letter and a 30 day warning to get you insured. If you do not purchase an auto insurance policy they will suspend your registration.
