What is a Service Line?
A service line is a title given to any underground utility lines that run into your home. Whether it be, water pipes, power lines, cables, and even the main sewer line that runs from your home to the street. You are almost always going to be responsible in the event that one of these is damaged.
How does Service Line Coverage Work?
If one of your covered service lines were to be damaged or even destroyed, service line coverage would cover the cost of repairing or replacing the line, as well as the excavation work, and the landscaping that will also have to come with it. These repairs can range widely in price, due to rising labor prices and cost of goods on the rise as well, it will continue to grow. Ranging anywhere from $1000 all the way up to $25,000.
What Causes Damage to the Service Line?
It is usually tree roots that break into the pipes. You can usually tell that it had happened because it will leave a large water puddle in your front yard and cause a mess.
Do I Need Service Line Coverage?
As with any add-ons to your coverage, it is all based on your situation. If you are in a situation where the extra money added to you premiums would not cause you a headache then it is probably worth it. If you feel that the added costs would not outweigh the risk of being uninsured then there is no need to add it on to your plan.
